Progress is being made on the collection of projects known as the South Well Field (SWF) Project.
BPU water and maintenance crews have been hard at work since kicking off the SWF project last spring. Construction on the new water treatment facility began minutes after the groundbreaking ceremony on June 15th, giving a home to the three new Loprest multicell greensand filters, which were received and set up over two days, November 2nd and 3rd. Prairie Land Works continues to make headway on the building construction, which is approaching 50% completion with the major equipment installed.
Work began on the well field, roughly 20 miles south of McPherson, in October 2022. It consists of three new public water supply wells, well houses and appurtenances, raw collection piping, power supply, and access roads to each well site. Well field site work ultimately ended in the Spring of 2023; however, final progress will come in early 2024 when Layne Christensen Company installs the water well pumps.
In May of 2023, the pipe installation process began from McPherson and has been working south. Crews are installing an average of 4,000/feet per week of pipe. As of November 10th, there are about seven miles of pipeline. Pipeline work is projected to be completed by April 2024.
