The McPherson Board of Public Utilities delivers some of the lowest-cost and most reliable power and water in the State. However, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do as well as we do without our people. For this reason, we want to showcase those people who significantly impact our business and community with an “Employee Spotlight.”
On Monday, the 27th, it was announced that the recipient of March’s Employee of the Month was Dylan Demel. Dylan is a Crew Chief in the Electric Metering and Service Department. He has been employed with the BPU for nine years!
Dylan grew up in Hoisington, Kansas; however, a job opportunity with the McPherson BPU brought him to McPherson. Demel learned about the McPherson Board of Public Utilities from friends from the McPherson area while at Pratt Community College, who all had great things to say about the McPherson BPU. After earning his Lineman apprenticeship certification an opportunity presented itself at the McPherson BPU, and he was hired. He worked as a lineman for eight years before being promoted to Crew Chief in in 2022. When asked what his favorite part about working at the BPU is, he stated, “I enjoy working in storm situations and being able to restore power to customers.” Demel went on to say this about BPU’s work environment and culture, “I have such a great group of coworkers; we all work well together. Anytime someone needs help, there are always multiple people willing to step in and provide that support”. Outside of work, Demel enjoys spending time with his wife and children and playing golf.
“Dylan Demel is a leader that every employer strives to acquire and retain. He begins every day with a smile and productive attitude. Dylan was recently promoted to Crew Chief of our Electrical Metering Department and has quickly excelled as a strong leader and great role model to his team. He does this by continually seeking opportunities to learn and help the utility wherever it’s needed. An example of this is how Dylan selflessly accepted responsibility to integrate our advanced, wireless water meter infrastructure into the already existing wireless electrical meter infrastructure. Dylan is a true team player and asset to the community.”
Thank you, Dylan, for your service to the BPU and the McPherson Community.
