The McPherson Board of Public Utilities delivers some of the lowest-cost and most reliable power and water in the State. However, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do as well as we do without our people. For this reason, we want to showcase those people who significantly impact our business and community with an “Employee Spotlight.”
On Thursday, the 26th, it was announced that January’s Employee of the Month recipient was Tony Wedel. Tony is a Crew Chief in the Water Department. He has been employed with the BPU for five years!
Tony grew up in Moundridge, Kansas, however this opportunity brought him to McPherson. “Being from the area, I knew the McPherson BPU had a good reputation and offered room for advancement in my career, which, I didn’t feel I had in my previous jobs, so I applied”. So far, that decision has not disappointed as went on to say, “The McPherson BPU is a great company to work for and McPherson is a good community to live in and raise a family in”. When asked what his favorite part about working at the BPU, he noted that the people make it a great place to work, “Having the coworkers that I do makes accomplishing our work goals so much more enjoyable”, stated Tony. Outside of work, Tony enjoys watching his kids play sports, fishing, and following K-State Athletics.
BPU General Manager, Josh Bedel, had this to say about Tony, “Tony Wedel is a true asset to both BPU and the community. As a Crew Leader in the Water Distribution department, he is responsible for leading efforts to maintain the utility’s 130 miles of underground water main. Like most jobs in the utility industry, weather is a major element that Tony and his team constantly overcome to ensure a safe, highly reliable water service for the City of McPherson and its surrounding industrial partners. Tony eagerly accepts this challenge and is determined to produce high quality results, all while smiling. Tony’s welcoming and positive attitude brings joy to others when these undesirable working conditions arise. Everyone in BPU has benefited from Tony’s attitude.”
Thank you, Tony, we sincerely appreciate your dedication and service to the McPherson Board of Public Utilities.
