In September of 2018, the BPU announced that it would be purchasing 50MW of wind energy from a new wind farm in Nemaha County, known as the Soldier Creek Wind Farm. Read more about that decision here. Recently, the BPU was presented with an opportunity to purchase an additional 25MW of energy from this farm. Given the favorable aspects of wind in terms of price and also the carbon-free emission characteristics, the BPU decided to purchase the additional wind capacity. This additional capacity is expected to increase BPU’s renewable energy supply to about 40% once the commercial operation of the Soldier Creek Wind Farm is announced; which, is anticipated to be December 2020.
