In February 2018 BPU’s Assistant General Manager, announced he would retire at the end of 2018.
“We have a great community in McPherson, and BPU is a very important part of McPherson’s success. Our infrastructure and equipment is very well maintained and more importantly, our employees are BPU’s greatest asset. I have appreciated everyone’s high integrity, positive approach combined with excellent skills, and temperament for both safety and for getting things done”, stated Wurm in is announcement to BPU Employees.
Wurm has assisted, BPU’s General Manager, Tim Maier since 2008 by providing management and professional engineering services on activities and projects associated with the BPU’s water and electric systems operation, planning and development. Wurm officially began his service with the Board of Public Utilities in 1989 working in the engineering department until 1999 when he made the decision to leave BPU to focus more on his farm. Two years later he was offered a position with the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority where he served for several years before he was ultimately recruited back to the BPU in 2008 to be the Assistant General Manager. Wurm says that he and his Wife, Amy will stay here in McPherson and while he is looking forward to more time for ice cream, he plans to continue his occasional work on his Farm in Anthony, Kansas. The BPU would like to thank Mark for his dedicated service to the Board of Public Utilities and to the McPherson Community.
