Public Power Week 2017
MCPHERSON BPU TO CELEBRATE PUBLIC POWER WEEK!
McPherson Kansas, 09-18-17 – In celebration of Public Power week (#PublicPowerWeek), BPU is inviting their customers to learn how the local utility team provides reliable, affordable power and water at several events/ activities in and/around the first week October.
Activities include:
· CUSTOMER APPRECIATION EVENT- OCTOBER 3rd, 2017 at KMU
Customers will enjoy a complimentary lunch of barbecue beef brisket sandwiches, sides and a dessert as wellas live skill/agility demonstrations performed by BPU Electric and Water Crews. · The Magic School Bus’ Ms. Frizzle to Visit McPherson- OCTOBER 3rd, 2017
Ms. Frizzle is scheduled to lead the McPherson Library’s STEAM Program on October 3rd starting at 4:00
This event is open to Children in K-5th Grade. Ms. Frizzle will read “The Magic School Bus at the Water Works” and “The Magic School Bus and the Electric Field Trip” Afterwords, she will lead the kids through a fun hands on demonstration educating them on how the BPU generates their electricity. The activity will take place at the McPherson Public Library from 4 pm- 5 pm at 214 W. Marlin, McPherson, Ks 67460.
· Drawing for $150 Dollar Credit on Customer’s Residential Utility Bill
To be billed in November 2017. One entry per family member. Sign up will be available in the BPU lobby from 8 am-5 pm September 18th-October 2nd. Drawing will be at 1:00 Oct. 3rd. Registrants must currently have residential service with the McPherson Board of Public Utilities. BPU Employees and their family members are not eligible. You do not have to be present to win.
· Children’s Coloring Contest from September 18th-September 29th.
Children are encouraged to pick up a coloring sheet at the front desk of the BPU. Once they complete their art, they can return it for a treat. BPU will proudly display the art in their lobby and at their Customer Appreciation Event at the Kansas Municipal Utilities Facility on October 3rd.
“Public Power Week celebrates the reliable, affordable electricity BPU provides to our community,” said BPU’s General Manager, Tim Maier. “Public power puts the people of McPherson first, and Public Power Week gives us the chance to emphasize the advantages of locally grown, locally owned power to our citizens,” said Maier.

Today the McPherson BPU has 72 employees who all share a commitment to keeping customer utilities safe and reliable. BPU has the capacity to generate more than 235 megawatts of electricity and 24/7, they serve nearly 8,727 electric customers and 5,909 water customers.
